Derek is from New York City (where he still lives and works), and appeared off-Broadway as Doofus in the premiere production of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Snow Angel, performed at HERE Arts Center. He's also appeared in Iphigenia In Tauris, Life’s a Dream, The Mark of Zorro and Man of La Mancha (to name a few).
Derek attended the school of Performing Arts at LaGuardia High School and went on to receive his B.F.A. in acting from DePaul University. He's studied various movement principles over the years, including Commedia dell’Arte, Feldenkrais, Lecoq, and sword fighting.
Today, his focus is on classic plays and heightened language, like Shakespeare, Molière and Beaumarchais. He thinks Aquila, The Pearl and New York Classical Theatre do awesome work, and loves laughter.
