Before founding DCL, Danny was Director of Distribution at Alexander Street Press, managing licensing and distribution of single film/video titles and helping to run ASP’s digital storefront ,The Academic Video Store. The Academic Video Store provides content to ASP’s proprietary digital platform, Video.AlexanderStreet, through which thousands of hours of content are distributed via Digital VOD and S-VOD to non-theatrical customers worldwide. Content licensed and distributed through these channels includes films from independent distributors like Zeitgeist Films, The Cinema Guild, Kino Lorber, First Run Features, The Global Film Initiative as well as film content sourced from well-known media brands like HBO, the BBC, PBS and The Smithsonian.
Additionally, Danny’s ran Alexander Street’s boutique, full-service educational & non-theatrical distributor, Filmakers Library where he acquired and managed the non-theatrical & educational/library releases of nearly 50 titles including top-tier documentary titles like LOST AND SOUND, SHOLEM ALEICHEM: LAUGHING IN THE DARKNESS, THE BIG FIX, HIS & HERS, THE REDEMPTION OF GENERAL BUTT NAKED, ELECTORAL DYSFUNCTION and (A)SEXUAL.
Before joining Alexander Street Press, Danny offered film distribution consulting and licensing services to filmmakers, distributors and other entities working in content distribution under the banner of DeLarge Films.
DeLarge Films clients included independent filmmakers like Tribeca alum Damien Chazelle (GUY AND MADELINE ON A PARK BENCH, released in theaters November 2010, released on DVD/Blu-Ray, Cable VOD/Digital markets May 2011) SXSW alum Andrew Bowser (JIMMY TUPPER VS.THE GOATMAN OF BOWIE ) and Gary Lundgren (CALVIN MARSHALL released into select theatrical markets fall 2010, released on DVD/Blu-Ray, Cable VOD/Digital markets November 2010) Additional clients included international and domestic film distribution companies, content aggregators–like The Orchard, Inc.–which delivers content to digital retailer, ipTV, mobile, and proprietary systems worldwide and distribution facilitators like Gracenote (formerly CDDB) which aggregates data and information related to video and film content in order to offer distributors better tools to increase packaged media and/or digital retail sales.
Danny’s early work includes managing operations at The Cinema Guild, a leading distributor of independent documentary & narrative feature films. There, he worked on the acquisition of numerous socially-conscious documentaries for distribution to non-theatrical and ancillary markets. Before leaving The Cinema Guild, Danny played an integral part in acquiring Cinema Guild’s first domestic narrative feature for theatrical distribution–cult filmmaker Andrew Bujalski’s most recent feature, BEESWAX.
Danny holds a B.S. Television & Film from Boston University’s College of Communications.
